Sobre 'Dear Life'
En una entrevista con Vulture, Beck explicó el significado de la canción: "Querida vida, se trata de cómo puedes pasar por períodos realmente difíciles y hay un cierto punto en el que dices: 'Vida, tómame, muéstrame lo que se supone que tengo que hacer. Me rindo'. Tendrás una semana donde diez cosas mágicamente van mal todas seguidas, pero también hay un poco de humor en eso".
Cuenta con un alegre riff de piano inspirado en los Beatles y voces en capas.
Este tema fue escrito antes de la finalización del álbum anterior Morning Phase por Beck y el productor Greg Kurstin, que interpretó la mayoría de las partes instrumentales de la canción.
"Dear Life" es el tercer sencillo del decimotercer álbum de estudio de Beck, Colors, y el primero que se publicó después de que se anunciara el álbum.
