However, it is much better known in the international field of contemporary Christian music as a label or even a group of performers of this genre.

The mother church and principal place of business of this "ministry" (within the meaning of evangelical-Pentecostal terms) is located on a hilltop in the university town of Hills Campus, in New South Wales, northwest of Sydney, Australia.

It also has an important "cell" or congregation called City Campus, located in Waterloo, near Central Park (Central Business District) from Sydney. The Hillsong Church has recently announced the construction of a new complex of buildings for their "Campus Town" on Rothschild Avenue, Rosebery suburbs, moving its campus in Waterloo Rosebery to begin construction when they are ready.

The international ramifications of the Hillsong Church congregations include: Hillsong London in the UK, Paris France Hillsong, Hillsong Kiev in Ukraine, and from March 1, 2007, Hillsong Moscow in Russia.

The first convention center in the Hillsong Church, with the best features of a modern theater or concert hall, and 3,500 seats, was opened by John Howard, Prime Minister of Australia, in October 2002.

Hillsong Church is considered one megaiglesia, a term which refers to several Pentecostal congregations with more than 2,000 members and parishioners, the Yoido Full Gospel Church in South Korea or the Elim International Christian Mission in El Salvador.

History
Hillsong Church was founded by New Zealanders pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston in 1983. Since 1978, the Houston were members of Christian Life Center in Sydney (Sydney Christian Life Center) in Darlinghurst, Sydney, then grazed by Brian's father, Frank Houston, a former Baptist pastor and former official of the Salvation Army, which eventually joined the Assemblies of God in Australia.

In August 1983, Brian and Bobbie started with a congregation of 45 people, the church was called Hills Christian Life Center, later, in 1999, would take the name of Hillsong Church as the congregation grew (in 2003 and had about 900 members ) began to take their annual conferences, called Hillsong Conferences, established as a communications major events of contemporary Christian music.

In the early 90's, the evangelical atmosphere of Australia and other English-speaking nations began to listen to recordings of "praise and worship," distributed by the label, Hillsong, church and his label were well known, what they allowed to use the same name (Hillsong) for a TV show with music and preaching of Pastor Brian Houston.

The progressive expansion of the Church media would be disrupted in 2004 by allegations of sexual abuse of minors (the crime allegedly committed 30 years earlier in New Zealand) against Brian's father, Frank Houston. The media scandal that sparked the complaint was that Brian Houston was forced to leave the helm of the congregation. However, the Church emerged from the crisis and the parish continued to grow, reaching 18,000 members.

Hillsong Church Conferences

Much of the success of Hillsong is due to the four major conferences sponsored (communications major events like the traditional "evangelistic campaigns" of the Evangelical United States, but with more emphasis on the quality of the musical), which are:

The Hillsong Conference, annual event in July 2005 about 30,000 people gathered at the Acer Arena Sydney Olympic Park and 35,000 in 2006, counting the 21 other representatives of Christian denominations in 71 countries.

The Color Your World Conference, an event aimed specifically at women.

The Hillsong Men's Conference, a conference for men.

The Hillsong United Youth event for young people.

Furthermore, the Hillsong Church says more than 19,000 people gather every Sunday in their services.
