Significado de la letra
En la canción 'Effervescing Elephant' de Syd Barrett, nos sumergimos en un mundo de fábulas y personajes coloridos. La historia comienza con un elefante efervescente, con ojos diminutos y una gran trompa, susurrando a las pequeñas orejas de alguien menospreciado que en el próximo junio moriría, ¡oh sí! Esto debido a la inminente presencia de un tigre que deambularía por la zona.
El pequeño ser se asusta y decide que es mejor quedarse en casa, seguro de que estará protegido al escuchar el rugido del tigre, bajo la promesa del elefante. Todos en la selva se ponen nerviosos al saber esta noticia, y se apresuran a difundir el mensaje a la cebra, el mangoos, incluso al hipopótamo sucio que prefiere ignorar la advertencia y en cambio, disfrutar de su comida picante de plancton de hipopótamo.
Los animales de la jungla entran en pánico, corriendo sin cesar día y noche, temiendo la llegada del tigre. Pero todo resulta ser en vano cuando el tigre finalmente aparece y declara que no lastimaría a ninguno de ellos, ya que prefiere algo que masticar y los considera escasos. Concluyendo su discurso, el tigre devora al elefante, cerrando así esta peculiar y un tanto absurda fábula de la selva.
