Sobre 'Night Swimming'
Esta canción es una mirada nostálgica de Stipe a una infancia pasada en las orillas aisladas de lagos y estanques. Para muchos adolescentes estadounidenses, estas playas solitarias sirven como uno de los pocos lugares de libertad y autonomía en sus vidas, lo que explica los fuertes y entrañables recuerdos que Stipe tiene de este lugar. En este raro lugar libre de la influencia de figuras y estructuras de autoridad, los adolescentes se convierten en su verdadero yo en un sentido romántico/transcendentalista.
