Los Adverts adoptaron un punto de vista peculiar para referenciar a Gary Gilmore, asesino de dos personas en Utah que se hizo famoso por pedir, por activa y por pasiva, su ejecución, la primera desde que sus últimas palabras ante el pelotón de fusilamiento (así se las gastaban en los EEUU en 1997) fueron “¡hacedlo ya!”.
En la canción del grupo de TV Smith, un hombre que necesita un trasplante de ojos recibe los de Gary Gilmore. Con una una mezcla entre humor negrísimo (Veo a través de los ojos de Gary Gilmore / Gary no los necesita más / él y sus ojos se han separado) y mal rollo (I smash the light in anger / I push my bed against the door / I close my lids across the eyes /I wish to see no more), los Adverts consiguieron uno de los hitos punk.
