Sobre 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right'
En las notas del disco, Dylan decía lo siguiente sobre la canción: "Mucha gente hace que sea una especie de canción de amor, lenta y fácil de cantar". Pero no es una canción de amor. Es una declaración que tal vez usted pueda decir para sentirse mejor. Es como si estuvieras hablando solo".
La sublime guitarra de fingerpicking fue originalmente acreditada al músico de apoyo de Dylan (y al propio Mr Tambourine Man) Bruce Langhorne, pero el erudito de Dylan Eyolf Østrem hace un argumento convincente de que la canción es una pieza de Dylan en solitario.
La omnipresente empatía de la canción proporciona una experiencia de escucha subjetiva: no es ni optimista ni pesimista. Como dijo el propio Dylan: "Es una declaración que tal vez puedas decir para sentirte mejor.... como si estuvieras hablando solo."
Cuando Dylan interpretó "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" por primera vez en el Gaslight Cafe en octubre de 1962, Suze Rotolo, su novia de entonces, ya llevaba cuatro meses tomando clases en la Universidad de Perugia, Italia. El dolor agudo de la separación de Dylan de Rotolo se oye en Freewheelin' y en esta canción, parece sorprendentemente amargado y desilusionado, pero todavía enamorado de su hermosa chica.
