Sobre 'Five To One'
El solo de guitarra de "Alive" de Pearl Jam se basó en el solo de guitarra de Ace Frehley en la canción de Kiss, "She", que a su vez se basó en el solo de Robby Krieger en "Five to One". El rapero Jay-Z también versionó "Five to One" como el ritmo de su canción "Takeover".
La letra fue escrita por el líder de The Doors, Jim Morrison. Parte de la canción ("Your ballroom days are over, baby, Night is drawing near, Shadows of the evening, crawl across the years"), fue aparentemente sacada del himnario del siglo XIX y de la canción para dormir "Now the Day Is Over".
Morrison citó la "oración infantil cristiana" en la que basó la canción en una versión en vivo de Soul Kitchen interpretada en 1969. El cantante también alteró la rima infantil "Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over The candlestick" para adaptarla a parte de su poema "An American Prayer".
La actuación más famosa de la canción fue en el concierto de Miami de 1969 en el Dinner Key Auditorium. Hacia el final de la actuación, un ebrio de Morrison insultó al público. Esta polémica actuación se puede escuchar en el disco 1 de The Doors: Box Set y está representada en la película de Oliver Stone, The Doors.
