Para la versión de The Doors, el tecladista Ray Manzarek tocó el marxófono junto con el órgano y el bajo del teclado.
En la grabación de 1967 de Live at the Matrix, el cantante de The Doors cantó el texto original "....next pretty boy".
En la versión del álbum, el cantante Jim Morrison alteró el segundo verso de "Show us the way to the next pretty boy" a "Show me the way to the next little girl" .
La versión original de The Doors cambió la melodía y omitió el verso que comienza como "Show me the way to the next little dollar...".
La canción fue versionada y grabada en 1966 por el grupo de rock The Doors, catalogado como "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)".
Fue musicalizada por Kurt Weill para la obra de teatro Little Mahagonny (Mahagonny-Songspiel) de 1927 y reutilizada para la ópera de Brecht y Weill Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny) de 1930, donde es cantada por Jenny y sus compañeras prostitutas en el Acto I.
