Significado de la letra
Déjame contarte una historia para erizar la piel, sobre algo que presencié una noche al vagar por los Everglades. Había tomado una copa, pero solo eso. Deambulaba, disfrutando de la brillante luz de la luna, observando las estrellas, sin percatarme de una presencia tan cercana a mí, observando cada uno de mis movimientos.
La sensación de miedo me invadió y caí de rodillas, mientras algo me arremetía desde los árboles, llevándome a un lugar impío, donde caí en desgracia. Entonces me invitaron a unirme a ellos en la danza de los muertos, al círculo de fuego me adentré siguiéndoles, guiado hacia en medio.
Como si el tiempo se hubiera detenido, estaba entumecido por el miedo, pero aún así deseaba continuar. La llamarada del fuego no me causaba daño mientras caminaba sobre las brasas. Me sentía en trance, mi espíritu se elevaba de mí, y si alguien hubiera tenido la oportunidad de presenciar lo que me ocurrió.
Bailé, salté y canté con ellos, todos con la muerte en los ojos, figuras sin vida, no muertos que habían ascendido del infierno. Mientras danzaba con los muertos, mi espíritu se burlaba y aullaba desde arriba, mientras mi cuerpo no muerto simplemente danzaba en el círculo de los muertos.
Hasta que llegó el momento de reunirnos de nuevo, mi espíritu regresó a mí. No sabía si estaba vivo o muerto, mientras los demás se unían a mí. Por suerte, una escaramuza comenzó, desviando la atención de mí, y ese fue el momento en que huí, corrí como el viento sin mirar atrás.
Una cosa que no me atreví fue mirar directamente adelante. Cuando sabes que tu momento ha llegado, sabes que estarás preparado para ello. Dices adiós a todos, bebes y rezas por ello. Cuando estás acostado en tu cama, despiertas de tus sueños para bailar con los muertos.
Hasta el día de hoy, supongo que nunca sabré por qué me dejaron ir. Pero nunca volveré a bailar, hasta que baile con los muertos.
